Just watched the first episode of Malaal and I am going to say Umaira and Mehreen have done it again. Thank you ladies for putting on another superb show for us! Just like Doraha and some other plays here and there, it is so “normal”. From the first episode, we have such a clear definition of the main characters which makes it SO VERY INTERESTING to watch. It almost feels like you are reading a really good book.
No need to be nervous Mehreen. You can relax in Panama City esp. since the weather is still pretty nice in the South I still don’t know why Panama City and not Destin LOL
On a side note: I am glad Babar Javed didn’t direct this otherwise it would have turned into another soapy Man-o-salwa type deal which I would not have been able to sit through.

My perception of Malal was different. Though I did not get to watch the first episode completely whatever I have watched, I am basing my feedback on that. Maybe the storyline is not my type. But I have to say it is not a regular Mehreen Jabbar serial or even an Umera Ahmed story for that matter. These two women have a lot going on in their portrayals than uncertainties regarding romances. This drama seems to be all about it. The characterizations are not crisp in their core and the scenes are too crisp for the viewer to actually entrench an outlook. There is lack of a flow. Besides seeing the characters, it feels as if I am reading some Danielle Steel novel. Mehreen Jabbar heroines do a lot more than khana-pakaoing for their boyfriends and worrying about their future with them- THEY HAVE A LIFE! The characters of Deepti Gupta and Sarwat Geelani are SUCH A STRONG contrast from what Sonia Rehman was like in Pehchan or what Sania Saeed and Nadia Jamil were in Aur Zindagi Badalti Hai……..one could fathom subtle strokes carefully imbuing each scene that kept me looking forward to the next one. I am not against falling in love but Malal is somewhat brittle and restrained.
Thanks a lot for your responses. Always good to hear different points of view. I think I can agree with Mehreen that this is not the kind of serial that I have done before. It is definitely much more light weight but it does have layers to the characters which hopefully should come out in the following episodes.
Malal is not just about love, but also about friendships, ownership in relationships, growing up, letting go, etc.

Can’t wait for the next serial of Mehreen.
