MALAL

Hello all. Just wanted to update everyone on the next project. It’s a 15 episode serial called Malal, written by Umera Ahmed and starring Faisal Rehman, Deepti Gupta, Mikaal Zulfiqar and many others. The filming will take place in New York where it’s freezing right now. In fact we just had another snowfall so I have told all the actors coming from Pakistan to really bundle up! It’s tough to act outdoors in the cold and I will try and delay the outdoor shoot to end Feb..but even then! We had the same problems in the serial Pehchaan which was also shot in New York in 2005 in Dec and Jan. Sonia Rehman, Deepti Gupta and Ismail Bashey had some pretty tough moments trying to say their lines out in the open with the cold and wind chill!

Anyhow, I am excited about this new serial. It’s been a year now since I shot Doraha and I can’t wait to get back on set!

    hey…am watching ur serial Doraha and its a great treat so will be looking forward to the new serial Malal…and i stay in new Jersey..so i would love to meet up with u guys if thats oki..and yeah its reallly cold…its snowing evn as i am writing this message!!

    I would come to NY to meet you guys .. but yeah its pretty cold and horribel driving.. why doing it in Winter do it in Summer.. lol
    I am sure you are use to it since you must have seen a few winters

    well i hope u shoot a serial in TOronto as well .. maye be you can cast me in your serial :)

    Mehreen y dont you ente the movie Ramchand pakistani in TIFF ( Toronto International Film festival) also .. that will be so awsome or is ther soemthing i can do to get that movie entertered in it ?

    Can’t wait for that new drama. do you know yet, when it will be available to watch? is sonia rahman also working in this drama? she is my new fav. after doraha :)

    Malal should be on air by the middle of this year. I live in New York, that is why i am shooting this here. Some parts take place in Pakistan though.
    The next serial takes place in Florida and Pakistan.

    First of all, Mehreen, all the best for this upcoming serial. So silly of me to fire a barrage of questions at you on Facebook. Thankfully I got all my answers here. But I have one more question. Has Umera Ahmed already published this story in any of her novels or is she specially writing the screenplay? As in Doraha was an adaptation of one of her already published short stories. I just want to know if Malal is too?

    Malal is an original story not based on Umera’s novel.

    Great to hear that Malal is all geared up to go! I didn’t know that you were residing in NY! No wonder you are shooting here ;-)
    Looking forward to this one. Hopefully we’ll be able to catch it online just like Doraha.

    It will probably go on air around June or July..hopefully..and by that time, I hope HUM TV airs in the US.

    We are newly married couple living in Denmark. We watched Doraha on VIDPK and really loved it. The acting of Sonia rehman and Humayun Saaed was outstanding. There was a message for us in the Doraha and thanks for this. We are trying find your dramas ‘pehchan’ and ‘kahaniyan’ on internet but couldn’t find it. Do you know where we can see these dramas?

    Hello Mehreen thumbs up Awesome I can’t express my feeling a fantabulous Job done by you and Umera(But we were a bit depressed as Umera’s fans think dat end was a bit change than it was in the novel ;-))still it was a nice play.
    Can you tell me if Malaal is dramatization of Meri Zaat Zarra Benishaan or any other script??
